The Pharmacy Department is staffed by registered pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The Pharmacist is responsible for the review of physician medication orders and for the dispensing of medications to hospital inpatients and outpatients. As a support service of the hospital, the pharmacy’s primary focus is concern for the safety and welfare of all patients.
The range of the pharmacy’s responsibilities begins with the purchase of the medication and continues through the time of pharmacological effect on the patient. The pharmacy’s goals are to: provide and insure safe, effective drug therapy; to maintain an effective quality assurance program; to utilize advanced technology, as appropriate, in providing pharmaceutical services; to constantly consider cost, once therapeutic effectiveness and safety are established; and to maintain the confidentiality of patients, their therapy and their medical disorder.
