On an April day in 1954, an organization named the Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary was formed with the purpose of supporting the hospital. The membership of the auxiliary in that first year of existence numbered 122. Today the number of volunteer members totals 225 and includes approximately 50 Junior Auxiliary members. The purpose of the organization is still to promote and advance the welfare of Galion Community Hospital through a public relations program, by volunteer services and by fundraising.
They have been and are... artists, crafters, bakers, crotchetier, decorators, guides, guardians, guilds, librarians, organizers, providers, quitters, salesladies, trainers, and more. But most of all, they are benefactors. The Auxiliary includes Active, Sustaining, Life, and Courtesy, as well as Associate Members.
Over the past 54 years, the activites of the Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary have been many and varied. The first year they launched the reception desk volunteer service and decorated the Children's Ward. Since then, they have donated nearly a million hours of volunteer service, as well as over one and one half million dollars for needed items such as equipment, redecorating, and another quarter of a million dollars for the new Emergency Deapartment/Intensive Care Department of the hospital.
Perhaps you ask "What now?" The answer to that would be a resounding "WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN!" The Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary is looking forward to the millennium with high hopes and great expectations. The volunteer work goes on. The fundraisers continue to be a sign of someone caring and sharing.
